Following are quick instructions to setup the Peraso EVK. These instructions are intended for EVKs for both PERSPECTUS and VERSATUS Modules (PRM2136X, PRM2141X, PRM2142X, PRM2143X and PRM2144X).

NOTE: At least two host computers are needed running Windows or Linux.

CONTENTS

The contents of the EVK are listed in the table below. The contents are grouped into three separate boxes.

Tripod

Box 3

Compact and portable tripod for mounting EVK

HARDWARE ASSEMBLY

Follow the steps below to assemble the hardware.

  • Attach the tripod to the back of the module’s heatsink. Note: extending the tripod will allow more convenience in connecting the cables in Steps 2 and 3.

  • Connect the USB port of the module to the Linux computer with the USB cable.
Note: Make sure to connect to a USB 3 port on your computer. Throughput will be limited if you do not.

  • Connect the power cord to the module. The power jack is located directly to the left of the USB connector (when looking at the module face on). Note: The green “power” LED should be on at this stage.

  • Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for the 2nd unit. (The 2nd unit is not included in the EVK. If you don’t have another module to connect to, then you must purchase a separate EVK.)

TROUBLESHOOTING

Issue Possible causes and solutions

The units cannot establish a connection

  • Check to make sure the units have power. The green Power LED should be on.
  • Check to make sure the units are not in an error state. (the red error LED will be on). If yes, recycle the power.
  • On Linux, ensure the wpa_supplicant and hostapd .conf files have matching parameters.
  • Are the units properly oriented?
        - The antennas are vertically polarized if one is rotated 90 degrees with respect to the other unit, throughput will be limited.
        - If the units are not facing each other a connection may be difficult to make, or throughput may be low.

Throughput is lower than expected

  • Are the EVKs connected to a USB3 (SS) port?
        - USB2 ports have limited throughput.
  • Are the units properly oriented?
        - The antennas are vertically polarized if one is rotated with respect to the other unit, throughput may be limited.
        - If the units are not facing each other a connection may be difficult to make, or throughput may be low.
  • Are the Host computers powerful enough to handle the full traffic throughput?
         - They should have an Intel i7 processor, or equivalent
.

Unable to pass traffic using iPerf

  • Make sure both ends of the connection have an ip address assigned to them.
  • Make sure the server IP address in the iPerf command is correct.
